Lesson 7

Exodus 13:17 - 14:31

Lecture

            I.      Freedom from fear.

1.     Fear is one of the strongest jails we will ever be in.

2.     It is very hard to be released from the bondage of fear.

3.     Our author has giving us a key to use when we are in the prison of fear.

                                                              i.      The Key is a predictable pattern.

4.     When we can see a pattern be begin to have a sense of peace.

                                                              i.      Patterns demonstrate predictability.

II.      Pattern of Freedom from Fear.

1.     Terror. The Israelites turned around and they saw the chariots of Pharaoh bearing down on them…and they were terrified.

2.     Anguish. Anguish is what we are left when after the initial shock and horror of the situation has worn off. “Oh, Moses, why did you bring us out here in the wilderness to die? It would have been better to be slaves to the Egyptians.”

3.     Listening. “Do not be afraid, stand firm and see the deliverance that the lord will accomplish this day.”

                                                              i.      The Psalmist writes Psalm 42

1.     As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God.

2.      My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?

3.     Deep calls to deep
       in the roar of your waterfalls;
       all your waves and breakers
       have swept over me.

4.     By day the LORD directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.

4.     Obedience. But once we have heard the Lord we actually have to do something.

                                                              i.       Exodus 14:15 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. 16 Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.

1.     Sometimes that something is active waiting. Sometimes that something is stepping out of our comfort zone.

2.     But no matter what, Obedience is never easy and mostly we don’t wan to do…but often times we have no choice

5.     Working it out and Coming to the other side.

                                                              i.      Exodus 14: 21-30

6.    Singing.

Ex 15:20 – 21.Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing. 21 Miriam sang to them:
       "Sing to the LORD,
       for he is highly exalted.
       The horse and its rider
he has hurled into the sea."

III.      Our Question. “Will God be faithful…this time?”

1.     Remember God’s faithful in the past.

2.     There is a predictable pattern of how God work in our lives.

                                                              i.      The circumstances will always be unique.

                                                            ii.      But Faithfulness is predictable

3.     We can build our life on the sureness of that promise.
