Children's Ministry

Welcome to St. Andrew’s Children’s Ministry!  Like Jesus, we cherish and love children.  We also know childhood is a crucial time for faith development.  Please accept our warm invitation for your kids to join us for a host of exciting, fun and purposeful Christian activities throughout the year.

Director of Children’s Ministry

Barbara Wheeler, M.A.

After many years working as a public school teacher, I felt God calling me into ministry.  As always, God knew what He was doing because I can truly say that my favorite day of the week is Sunday!  I absolutely LOVE teaching your children about Jesus.  Working in a church setting also allows me to be creative, which makes work fun.

If you choose to bring your child to any of our programs, know it will be well organized and safe.  My education and experience has prepared me to make it so. We also have a talented and committed teaching staff.  We’d love to meet your children.

If you have questions about anything related to St. Andrew's Children's Ministry, please contact me by phone 297-7201 ext. 233 or by e-mail at bwheeler@standrewspres.com.  Come and check us out!

Sunday School is the heart of our children's ministry.  At Sunday School your child will learn:

  • Bible Stories, Skills, and Concepts
  • Memory Verses from the Bible
  • How to pray
  • About Jesus their Savior

Your child will also make many good friends – friends who are developing healthy Christian character traits.

We offer classes year-round for children ages 2 – fifth grade.  We are located on the southwest campus in the lower level.  Children younger than 2 receive loving care in our nursery, also located in the lower level.

Children’s Sunday School is held during the 9:00 and 10:45 worship services, but after the Children’s Message.  Therefore, kids should go into the sanctuary with their parents for the beginning of the worship service.  They will be called forward to the steps for the Children’s Message.  Afterwards, they exit and go to Sunday School.  Parents are always free to keep their children in worship if desired.

Below is a link to our Fall Newsletter.  It lists the classroom assignments for all age groups and many of the other ministries and special events for children at St. Andrew's.  It also mentions our theme for the school year called "Zooplosion."  In Children's Worship, we will be learning Bible Stories with animals.  They help us learn that God always has a plan for our lives and provides for our needs.  In fact, our Sunday School Lower Level is decorated like a zoo!  Our Promotion Sunday and "Fall Kick-Off" is Sunday August 14th.

Tea to Go Small Group and others : prepared Welcome Baskets for Refugee Families

Two friends took a welcome basket to a Palestinian refugee family who had recently arrived in Tucson. The dad shared that their greatest need was for a wheelchair for his mother. Our friend had one in his garage and we delivered it several days later. It’s amazing how smiles, charades, drawing pictures, and laughter help bridge the communication gap.

A couple prepared a welcome basket for another Palestinian refugee family… a grandmother, daughter, and two children. The refugees enjoyed the visit from the Americans. A picture puzzle had been included in the basket and the children started it and all had fun working on it together.

The Tea to Go small group prepared a welcome basket and delivered it to an Iraqi family. They were warmly welcomed, served chai tea and cookies, and had a nice visit thanks to the translator who happened to be visiting them. They learned that the mom sews beautifully, but had no sewing machine. God provided one through a church member. When it was taken for service and repair, the shop donated their time and services. When the group delivered it to the family, they were so pleased.
