Thank You St. Andrew’s for a Hugely Successful Wheels for Kids Drive!

Recently, St. Andrew’s supported Vistoso Cyclists drive for used bicycles, helmets and donations. collected approximately 20 bikes, some helmets and cash donations.St. Andrew’s parishioners networked in a way that we did not anticipate.person called and asked our permission to put our information on the website at their work location. Another wanted to put our information in their HOA newsletter.response, Vistoso Cyclists and Seniors for Kids have put together a process under which we can pair bike pickup volunteers to donors, thereby making bike donation even more painless. We are now training more mechanics to help get the bikes to those who need them more promptly. St. Andrew’s was the first church-affiliated drive we hosted.on this success, we are reaching out to other churches. This is an ongoing effort—contact Rick Haupt at rjhaupt@comcast.net or 544-0069 to arrange for bike pickup.

Tea to Go Small Group and others : prepared Welcome Baskets for Refugee Families

Two friends took a welcome basket to a Palestinian refugee family who had recently arrived in Tucson. The dad shared that their greatest need was for a wheelchair for his mother. Our friend had one in his garage and we delivered it several days later. It’s amazing how smiles, charades, drawing pictures, and laughter help bridge the communication gap.

A couple prepared a welcome basket for another Palestinian refugee family… a grandmother, daughter, and two children. The refugees enjoyed the visit from the Americans. A picture puzzle had been included in the basket and the children started it and all had fun working on it together.

The Tea to Go small group prepared a welcome basket and delivered it to an Iraqi family. They were warmly welcomed, served chai tea and cookies, and had a nice visit thanks to the translator who happened to be visiting them. They learned that the mom sews beautifully, but had no sewing machine. God provided one through a church member. When it was taken for service and repair, the shop donated their time and services. When the group delivered it to the family, they were so pleased.
