A Third (First) Elijah “Performance” Has Been AddedBy Marshall Sanders As we have continued to plan for the two major performances of Mendelssohn’s ELIJAH, we came up with another idea that may be helpful to some and interesting to others. Some people truly enjoy watching productions of this kind come together. In other words, they enjoy the process almost as much as the final product. So for them, we are inviting the “public” to come to the final dress rehearsal on Wednesday evening, April 23rd, beginning at 7:00. This rehearsal will be a rehearsal – not a front-to-back, non-stop performance. However, it will be rehearsed in order, even including a mid-point break much like the intermission at the two main presentations. At this rehearsal, you would be able to witness the way major productions are fine-tuned (some pun intended!). Everyone will be present that night, including the full orchestra, the chorus, and all four soloists. There will be stops where I and others will have suggestions or corrections to make. I will even be wearing a microphone so you can clearly hear what I’ll be saying to the performers. In order to anticipate the attendance for this special Wednesday night, and to help offset costs, we will be selling tickets for this night only for just $5.00. On Friday night and Saturday afternoon, no tickets will be sold, but rather an offering will be taken to defray the high costs of this type production. Your generosity will assure that more programs of this type are done at St. Andrew’s. One other thought. This behind-the-scenes “performance” might be your only opportunity to see ELIJAH, if you are unable to attend either the Friday night or Saturday afternoon concerts. Some will certainly want to experience both. Tickets will be on sale for the Wednesday night “rehearsal” beginning Sunday, April 6 following all three morning services. And they will continue to be sold on the following two Sundays as well. Return to home page |
