Help Wanted (Help = You)

I think I have just survived one of the most chaotic periods of my life at the beginning of the year. In the span of one month, I had to take all five ordination exams (which I found out I passed!), run the 30-Hour Famine, take a two-week class in Pasadena, and then lead a high school ski trip to Colorado (all while juggling chainsaws on a unicycle).

But as busy as that month-long period was for me, May is coming. Let me briefly tell you what is going on in the Youth Ministry department in this 31-day month. First, the Moonlight Dinners are happening on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. This is one of our biggest fund-raising events in which you (members of St. Andrew’s) get to dine in luxury to beautiful music as the students in the Youth Ministry answer your every beck and call as your servers. This summer (as I will explain later), we are doing a LOT of things that cost lots of money, and without your help and eating great food at the Moonlight Dinners, we could not do everything we’re hoping to do! So we need your help. Buy a Moonlight Dinner ticket (or twelve) after church or through our wonderful Elder, Bill Ricker (299-4965).

Secondly, only one week later, we are hosting our annual Golf Tournament! So if you don’t like dinner and being waited on hand and foot, maybe swinging a club at a very small ball suits your tastes better. This wonderful event happens on Friday, May 9 and also helps students participate in the summer’s events. You can sign up for this after church on Sundays as well or call our other wonderful Elder, John Callicotte, to sign up (297-3415).

Third, the following weekend, it is 6th Grade Promotion Weekend. We are celebrating all incoming 6th grade students and their parents. On Saturday night, May 17 from 5-8 p.m., we’re having a special Incoming 6th Grader BBQ!  This is a great time for parents and students to come and see what the Youth Ministry at St. Andrew’s is all about. Then on Sunday, May 18, at the 10:45 a.m. service, we are having our official 6th Grade Promotion, where all current 5th grade students will be promoted to 6th grade and considered part of the Youth Ministry (meaning they can sign up for camp and go to Submerge Middle School youth group on Wednesday nights).

Fourthly, May 19-23 is graduation week. We have students from about five million different schools graduating from both high school and middle school, and so we’re taking the week off to celebrate these graduations together!

And finally, from May 27 to June 5 we are taking our high school students on an amazing 10-day mission trip to Costa Rica! While there, we’ll be building houses and working with locals to do God’s work. This is our most massive undertaking and we will definitely need your prayers and support! An official commissioning of our team takes place on Sunday, May 25 at the 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. services.

So, there is a glimpse of the next month of my life. We cannot do any of this without your help and support! We need prayer support, financial support, leadership support (we always need new leaders) and more!  So as you are going through this month, think about D’WAVE Youth Ministry and get involved somehow!
