This is an opportunity to help those in Tucson that are
homeless or hungry. We have over 200 St. Andrew's Families involved and by
helping out once every 8 weeks we are delivering around 300 lunches each week.
This is how it works. Every 8 weeks each group makes lunches. Each member is
responsible for 10 lunches. A group of 10 would make 100 lunches. The
lunches usually have a sandwich , a drink (water, juice, Gatorade), fruit
(fruit cup, apple, orange etc), a sweet (cookie, candy bar), some chips and
maybe a granola bar. Put in whatever you might have made for your child,
wife or husband. The sandwiches are either peanut butter or meat. We pack
the meat sandwiches in a separate bag so they can refrigerate them and put
in the bags later.
We supply the sacks, small packets of mayo and ketchup and spoons if needed.
We also put in a flier of where to get help if you are homeless. These
materials are stored in the white cupboard in the church kitchen near the
dishwasher. The sacks have a St. Andrew's stamp on them. Some groups have
their kids decorate the sacks and some people put in notes or Bible verses
in the lunches.
Each group has a name and a leader. The leader sends out an email with the
instructions when their date approaches. The lunches go to the Giving Tree
Compassion Hope Center. It is at 4650 E Eastland St. It is located on the
southwest corner of Eastland and Swan. Eastland is the 4th street north of
22nd street. You can enter off of Swan and park in the rear. They are open
24/7. There is always someone there to help unload the lunches. . There is a
schedule for the group several weeks in advance. If for some reason you are
gone you can either just miss it or have the group make your lunches and you
pay for them.
It is easy. No meetings. No dues. If you are gone you can either chip in and
have the group makes your lunches or just skip it. There are few rules. For
more information and to sign up and be assigned to a group contact Craig
