Major Music Event Planned for AprilAs you’ve noticed, if you’re a 10:45 worshipper, our choir and orchestra have grown this fall, and there is great energy for what will happen next. We wanted to bring you on board with some exciting plans – hopefully some of which will involve YOU. On Friday night, April 25 and Saturday afternoon, April 26, we are going to present Mendelssohn’s oratorio, Elijah – likely the greatest accomplishment of Mendelssohn’s amazing career. We found Elijah’s story to be both fascinating and inspiring, and within just a few years had convinced most of Europe that Elijah was truly worth singing about. Choruses the world over have enjoyed preparing and presenting this incredible piece of classic literature. Our Chancel Choir has invited the Catalinas Community Chorus to join with us for this wonderful opportunity. We will have about 150 singers! St. Andrew’s Orchestra has also experienced tremendous growth this fall – both musically and in numbers. In fact, we currently have over 60 orchestra members and the group is capable of playing most literature available and certainly including the Mendelssohn Elijah. There may be some of you who are not part of our regular choir, but would like to consider singing the Elijah with us.would love to have you join us for this production. Find out more about rehearsals, schedules and requirements, either email our Director of Music, Marshall Sanders at msanders@standrewspres.com or call him at 271-5238. The orchestra is always looking for string players too, so if you know of those who might want to join, have them contact Marshall as well. Keep watching CrossCurrents during these upcoming months for Elijah updates and other ways you might want to get involved in supporting this great endeavor. Return to home page |
