2007 Missions Annual Report  - St. Andrew’s Reaching Out to the World 

Jesus challenges us in Matthew 28:19 to “Go and make disciples of all nations”. He also said that when we supply food, water, clothing, and friendship to those in need we have done that for Him. In response to His commands the Mission committee provides a central place for;

-               Identifying and communicating mission opportunities to the congregation,

-               Prioritizing and distributing available funds to these projects,

-               Encouraging member participation in local and international mission projects. 

For work in the Kingdom outside the walls of St. Andrew’s, Session has set up a budget for missions and a committee to lead our involvement in mission. Members who served on the team are:

 The team is pleased to report some of what God has done this year through the personal involvement and financial support of members: 

  • Building a home in Tucson for Habitat for Humanity
  • Home building project in Mexico through Amor Ministries
  • Support for the Sells and Tortolita Presbyterian Churches
  • Bible translation for those without the scriptures
  • “Change for Children” for Zambian kids orphaned by AIDS/HIV
  • Work with Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS network
  • Volunteers and board membership at Interfaith Community Services
  • Volunteers and board membership at House of Neighborly Services
  • Board membership and sales of Just Coffee
  • Gospel Rescue Mission volunteers and One Step Beyond housing for homeless
  • Encouragement for Adopt-a-family and Operation Christmas Child
  • Hispanic neighborhood evangelism through Corazón ministries
  • Support of ministries in Lebanon, Tajikistan, Ecuador, Mexico, Zambia, Nicaragua, Cambodia, and Turkey
  • Support for Galludet University for the deaf, Border ministries, bible interpretation for non-literate peoples, seminary students, campus ministry, job development in Central America, refugee sponsorship in Tucson
  • Participation in Presbyterian Global Fellowship conference

Forty-seven individual ministries plus the Presbyterian mission efforts were supported financially. 

Source of funds for mission activity:

            From Annual Funds Budget $152,000

            From Tompkins Fund $120,000

Congregational special offerings such as Change 4 Children ($12K), Adopt a Family ($6K), Operation Christmas Child ($6K), Just Coffee sales ($3K), One Step Beyond ($2K)  - these added approximately  $29,000.

Supported ministries are evaluated annually; with on site visits when possible, to assure the work being done is essential and effective.
