“Why Do You Stand There Gazing?” The title of this sermon is not an antiquated question for
our generation. It was first asked of the disciples on the day of the ascension
of Jesus into heaven. What about its meaning for us? Read Acts 1:6-11.

“Let the
Spirit ‘Zap’ You.” Why is it that celebrations like Christmas and Easter are given the
whole show? Easter, without Pentecost, as far as the church is concerned…is
a dud. Pentecost has been called “the birthday of the Christian Church.”
It occurs 50 days following Easter and commemorates the descent of the
Holy Spirit on the apostles. It was on that occasion that Peter preached a
sermon following which 3,000 persons became part of the early Christian
fellowship. Red is the liturgical color symbolizing the tongues of fire that
rested on each apostle. It is tradition that persons attending worship on
Pentecost Sunday (May 11 this year) wear red. Read Acts 2:1-21 and come, let us celebrate! May
the Spirit zap you until you tingle with joy!

“On Bearing
Burdens.” Who wants to bear burdens, anyway; our own, much less anyone else’s? Not a very exciting theme for a sermon is it? Sounds
oppressive. Well, don’t be too sure. Read Galatians 6:1-10.

Pastor
Jennifer Wilcox is preaching on Mark 1:16-20 in a sermon entitled “‘Come, Follow Me’ – No Holding
Back.” The great commission begins right here with Jesus and us! Are we willing to live what we
hope and expect of other people? When we encourage others to “give their lives
to Jesus” we have to honestly ask ourselves “Am I doing this myself or have I
given my life only in part, and so am I holding something back?”
