Presbyterian Global Fellowship (PGF):

An organization helping to create a bright future for the denomination

The second annual conference of the PGF was held in Houston mid-August and Jasper Melton, Will De Boer, and Dick Kampa of the Mission team were there with 900 other Presbyterians. Called the Inside-Out conference, it addressed the way the church can renew itself in the 21st Century by becoming missional and moving into God’s world outside. The music was contemporary, the presentation style lively, the worship was Christ-centered, the messages delivered were frank and clear. The expectation for the Missional Church is that to be the face of Jesus to the world we must move out to where God’s people – all the people – are living, get to know them, and help find answers to their problems.

PGF is an independent fellowship that was established by several strong serving pastors in the PC(USA) who believe that by taking leadership and initiative in this effort they can help lead the denomination into a positive direction of relevancy in the world. PGF provides member churches like ours with a network of information and ideas for use in building the missional concept locally.

We saw examples of churches and ministries that are already living this missional church way here in the USA, relating to the poor and the lost in generations and life-styles most of us would find hard to relate to. We saw the results of faithful mission work in China, Africa, Los Angeles, Madison, and Houston.

Session has endorsed a vision for our church that is based on three main points: Reaching Out, Looking Up, and Maturing Inward. Session is working to implement these strategies. Our youth ministries and many adult members are involved in being out there with those who need to see the face of Christ close-up. The denomination seems to recognize the importance of the missional concept. Hunter Farrell, newly appointed PC(USA) Director of Missions, was at the conference and said he was amazed about how supportive the speakers were for the good of the PC(USA). St. Andrew’s and Northminster were represented at the conference for the second year, so you can expect that we will be leading our congregations in a missional direction.
