It’s Time for Spring’s Traditions and Transitions By Barbara Wheeler Two words pop to mind when I think about Spring in Children’s Ministry: Tradition and Transition. There are many joyous traditions in the Spring. Holy Week and Easter bring our traditional palm processions and Easter Egg Hunt on Palm Sunday. We hold special, more traditional children’s worship services on Easter morning with our 5th graders planning part of the service at 10:45 a.m. Right after Easter, we traditionally start our Vacation Bible School registration. That is a traditionally CRAZY time! We also begin making transitions in the Spring. Probably the hardest transition for me is sending our 5th graders off to Youth Ministry at the beginning of June. I have worked with most of them since they were two-year-olds. Spring is also the time to thank our wonderful teachers for their devotion to the children this year. They deserve a restful summer break. I begin searching for some of my most appreciated volunteers—summer teaching staff. I guess Spring is lovely whether you’re carrying out a tradition or in transition because the Lord is there, doing His wonderful works. I wish you and your family Happy Spring!
