Parish Nursing is a healthcare ministry designed to identify and address the health needs of the congregation through education, counseling and advocacy. Through the integration of health and faith, this ministry strengthens the church community by focusing on each individual's physical, emotional, spiritual and social well being.

The goal of Parish Nursing is to work, in partnership with the other care ministries, toward establishing the church as a vital resource for health and healing. For help with any health related issue, please contact Parish Nursing through the church office: 297-7201

Parish Nursing

by Louise Doran, Parish Nurse Coordinator

Parish Nursing is more than a nurse in a church—spiritual care is the core of the practice. The goal is to work in partnership with the other care ministries towards establishing the church as a vital resource for health and healing. In response to this belief, parish nurses assist and empower individuals to become more active partners in the management of their personal health resources.

As health counselors, Parish Nurses have provided guidance to individuals with regard to working their way through our complex medical system, assisting them in understanding their illness, and helping them prepare for a "doctor" visit. Many people have been linked to community resources where they have received information and support on a specific health problem. Health promotion has been accomplished through a monthly information table after each Sunday worship service and health articles in CrossCurrents newsletter.

Through the years we have collaborated with several St. Andrew’s ministries including Worship and Music’s emergency procedures and first aid boxes, youth retreats and mission trips, Order of St. Luke’s Mission, Vacation Bible School, Women’s Ministry’s healthy eating resource, Preschool’s joint CPR/First Aid classes, and Senior Ministry’s blood pressure screening and health fair.

All contacts with a Parish Nurse are confidential. Please contact the church office for help at 297-7201.
