The Piecemakers Quilting Group

In January 2002, the Friday Morning Bible Study at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona, offered a three week "intercession" course—short term classes on various subjects. One was a quilting class. The three-week goal was to make a quilt top for a log cabin quilt. Ten women signed up and took the class.

After the quilt tops were made and the three-week intercession ended, the women were having too much fun to quit. As a result, Piecemakers became a permanent group within the Women’s Ministry at St. Andrews. One of the original class members was an accomplished quilter and offered to become the instructor. Beginning with a sampler quilt, she taught a different quilt pattern at each meeting. The Piecemakers meet regularly and read devotions from The Quilt of Life, by Mary Tatem.

Fellowship is an important aspect of these groups. The Piecemaker quilters have developed strong friendships. Their work has been donated to several local missions and was used for door prizes at the annual Women’s Ministry Prayer and Praise Breakfast. The Piecemakers continue to look for ways to reach out to other women both inside and outside our congregation.
