SERMON NOTES Rev.
Jim Toole Liminality (from the Latin word līmen, meaning "a threshold"[1]) The liminal state is characterized by ambiguity, openness, is a period of transition where One's sense of identity dissolves to some extent, bringing about disorientation. It is usually in this in-between time that our faith is deepened. In the passage today we see David at the Cave of Adullum. He was in his greatest in-between. But I believe David had to give up control and trust which resulted in his restoration and empowerment. Trust is ultimately us letting go of our control and clinging on to God as our refuge. Trust is the assurance that God is with us no matter the outcome which eventually gives us strength and empowers us. Questions to Consider 1. What are some of the in-between or tough seasons you have had in your life? 2. What is your current “in-between” or “cave”? 3. What does it look like for you to let go of control and say, “Lord not my will but Your will be done”? Return to home page |
